This is was a test for a UX Design and Research position for the National Center for Telehealth and Technology.
My design prompt was: Design a mobile app that helps users keep track of and reduce their monthly utility costs.
From there I was to design an app and put together a presentation on what research I discovered and why I designed the way I did. The first twelve slides are my presentation and the last six are my wireframes.
Doing this I learned how to pull user data and metrics from other sources, like user reviews, instead of trying to pull data from the applications themselves.
My overall design was a mobile application, where users could sync their appliances to their phone for control, separate the utilities and show how much is owed, and I set up an incentive program for local companies to push deals. I also provided an online place to look for tips on how to save money. The user can favorite their tips and upload their own.
